What is the appropriate combination of holistic approaches for research?
This is a question that has so plagued my daily internal monologue for the last year.
I want to focus on case studies specifically, as they can have the most individualized detail. Here’s my tentative conclusion:
For case studies, one should select, at minimum, one hard science, one soft science, and one spiritual/philosophical framework, and these should be selected with the input and consideration of the participant(s). One should also consider adding an art-based approach into the mix to express ineffable and immeasurable elements through images, symbols, allegories, and metaphors.
Alone, one approach cannot explain all the dimensions of orgasm. There needs to be a multi-dimensional approach. While there’s often a debate between science and vitalism, I want to go against the grain here and suggest both be used in the same paper. It would be nice to see elan vital, chakras, the meridians, and other vitalistic approaches alongside mechanistic disciplines like mathematics, biology, chemistry, and physics.
